Chapter 3: New Legends

Small fragments of rock and debris scattered the far reaches of space, several mangled and charred MF littered its self in the debris along with a few large portions of what were once war ships. Within this wreckage was a large asteroid, but this was no normal asteroid; it was one of the EAP’s top secret weapon facilities hidden away from the TA army and 181st. The asteroid satellite was constructed a year and a half ago in hopes of creating new MF without anyone knowing about it. It’s even hidden away from most of the EAP, only a few top ranked individuals know of its existence.

Inside the satellite the main hangers were alive with motion as several new MF were being tested and modified. Their dark grey metallic bodies blended in with the shadows of the hanger making them look very mysterious. Workers looked them over and constantly tuned them to their max output, but because they had just come off the assembly line there were more problems then they had hoped for.

A worker sat in one of the cockpits of these units as he rapidly typed on the keyboard in front of him. his medium long silver hair swayed back and forth in the zero gravity environment; his dark blue eyes moved back and forth in their sockets as he ran through the specs of the unit he was in. one of the other workers pushed himself down towards the cockpit and poked his head inside. “How goes the system tune up Chris?”

Chris stopped typing and moved the screen out of the way to look at the worker. “The system stats all look up to date I’m going to try and power it up again”. Chris wrapped his left hand around the joystick to his left and started to push buttons and flick switches; the faint humming came out of the unit as the generator slowly powered up. Just as the unit was almost fully powered up there was a loud snap that came from the unit and sent several bolts and nuts flying across the hanger as everyone ducked in cover.

Chris quickly shut down the unit and then slapped his right hand on his face while letting the other hand go limp. “God damn it, I can’t take this anymore”. Chris slowly got up and flouted out of the cockpit and looked up at the workers on the unit’s shoulders. “Damn it you told me that you guys had fixed the problem this time!” Chris yelled out at them.

All the workers stood there looking at each other unable to say one word, Chris just sighed in frustration.

Another worker hopped over the catwalk and pushed himself down towards the unit Chris was in; once he had came to a stop on the unit he looked over to Chris with a grin on his face. “Still having problems with it eh Chris?”

Chris looked up at the worker and sighed again. “Leon I don’t have time for your jokes”.

Leon just laughed and moved down towards him. “Come on Chris, you need a break”.

“Yeah maybe your right”. Chris whipped the sweat from his face with the clean rag in his pocket and followed Leon back up to the catwalk as they headed to the lounge.

Chris walked over to the soda machine and pushed a button on it; the soda popped out the bottom so Chris leaned down and picked it out; he popped the top and took a drink of it as he fell on the couch behind him. He threw his head back and closed his eyes. “Damn, these units are starting to become a pain in my ass I think the EAP is asking too much of us this time”.

Leon took a drink of his soda and walked over to the window looking out at the debris field around them. “Yes, but it was nice that they gave us this promotion to the Special Forces unit”.

“Yeah that’s true”. Chris slowly opened his eyes and started to remember the battles he was in about a year ago.

Before they were members of the EAP’s Special Forces unit they were just normal MF pilots, but were top aces. All Chris could remember about those battles were the times when he was able to see both OZ and Blue Dragon fighting it out. He would sit there and watch in awe at the amazing strength and skills of their pilots, and couldn’t help but feel in superior to them.

Chris quickly lifted his head and yelled out in anger. “Damn it. They aren’t that tough; why do they get all the glory!”

“Still thinking about the OZ and Blue Dragon units”, Leon said as he stared out the window.

“No matter what we did everyone would still talk about them; their both considered legends, and now OZ has been destroyed and Blue Dragon has gone missing. Damn it!” Chris yelled again as he got up and kicked the couch. Leon glanced over at him knowing exactly how Chris was feeling; he to couldn’t help but want to take both them on himself. Chris calmed down and just chuckled. “We may never get to fight them, but we’ll just have to show everyone that there not so good”.

Leon looked over at him and nodded his head. “That’s right, with our new units nearing completion we’ll show everyone just how powerful we really are”.

As the two of them stood there grinning at each other the announcement system came on over the speakers throughout the facility. “Attention, Would Chris Striker and Leon Maverick please report to hanger 6, I repeat Chris Striker and Leon Maverick please report to hanger 6”. Both Chris and Leon looked at each other and quickly headed off to hanger 6 in a hurry with a large grin on their face; because hanger 6 was where their new units were being held.

Chris and Leon flouted down the large white hallway as several fully uniformed soldiers passed by them saluting each as they passed bye. Soon they came to a large steel door with the words “Restricted Area Authorized Personal only” on the door. The guard stopped them and both Chris and Leon quickly showed their ID. The guard then punched in the code to the door and moved aside. The large steel door slowly opened up to the massive hanger with a quite creek. The two of them walked in to the vast hanger as several workers and scientist flouted around.

Their eyes were soon directed to the center to the hanger where two lone MF stood. Both stood at roughly the same height; one was colored a cyan and red color while the other was colored black and yellow; both of them also had two large wings attached to their backs that shined in the spotlight above them.

Chris and Leon were soon greeted by a high ranked officer carrying two folders under his arm; the three of them quickly saluted each other and shook hands. “I’m glad you two could make it here, My name is Captain Henry Fenrir, we’ve appreciated your help over these past few months”. The officer said to them.

“It’s an honor to meet you and it’s no problem sir, we do what we can”, Chris said politely.

Captain Fenrir soon grabbed the two folders under his arms and handed it to them. “These are the blueprint and specs to your new units, as we speak these units are ready to launch whenever we get the order”.

Chris and Leon opened up the files and started to look them over.

The ZHFT- R256 Destiny Factor, the EAP newest of two units being developed at the weapon facility satellite MR3; this current unit is employed to Chris Striker of the Special Forces Unit.

The Destiny Factor was built with multiple targets in mind, similar to the system on the Blue Dragon this unit has six small remote guided weapons that lock on to a nearby target and stay locked on till the target is destroyed. The individual weapons are made of a high grade Titanium alloy meant to withstand high amounts of heat.

The HOWT (High Output Wing Thrusters) is a new technology developed at the MR3 satellite along with this unit. These thruster are built into the wings and when the wings are fully open they create a butterfly like thruster effect from the wings, these thrusters can give the unit a great boost of speed allowing the unit to reach mach 1 ( 1,225 km/h) in space and 852 km/h in the Earth’s atmosphere. Since the thrusters generate a lot of heat the ATAWS remote weapons were built with the high Titanium grade alloy to withstand the great amount of heat.

Another unique weapon is the MRJ-000 multi-target lasers mounted in the palm of the unit’s hands. This weapon locks on to several targets at once and then launches several dozen lasers from the palms that lock onto their target and destroy it. When combined with the ATAWS remote weapons the system can lock onto and destroy more targets. The only draw back is that the weapon can only be used once every three hours due to the high amount of energy needed to use this weapon, if the weapon were used before the three hours the structure of the hands would fail and explode.

The unit is also equipped with two MRJ-476 high output energy rifles and two combinable energy sabers; along with two beam shield generators mounted to the forearms; the beam shields are able to cover most of the length of the unit.

This unit along with its brother unit are top secret and must never fall into the hands of the TA or 181st, if the time comes each unit is equipped with a manual self-destruct system, and because of its nuclear reactor the system must only be used as a last resort.

In conclusion, the ZHFT- R256 Destiny Factor is one of EAP strongest units and should move us forward to victory in any upcoming battles in the future.

Pilot: Leon Maverick
Model Number: ZHFT- S258
Code name: Prophecy
Manufacturer: EAP MR3 satellite
User: EAP Special Forces Unit
Unit type: Prototype Mechanized Frame
First Deployment: 104 AR
Head height: 18.72 meter
Weight: 75.61 Metric Tons
Power plant: Compact Nuclear Fission Reactor
Armament: MRJ-245 30mm head mounted machine guns, x2, MRJ-476 high output energy rifle, MRJ-S653 anti-ship energy swords (Stored on back) x2, MRJ-785 energy rail guns (mounted on hips (Fold out in use) x2, MRJ- 659 beam shield generator (Mounted on forearms)
Operating System: Standard

The ZHFT-S258 Prophecy is the brother unit to the ZHFT-R256 Destiny Factor that is being developed at the weapon facility satellite MR3; this unit is currently employed to Leon Maverick of the Special Forces Unit.

The Prophecy was designed with close range combat in mind; it is equipped with the newly designed anti-ship energy swords. These swords are able to cut clean through a MF’s armor and even through a war ships tough hull. The anti-ship swords can be connected one of two ways; the swords can be connected end to end to form a double sided sword or connected side by side. When connected side by side the energy blade on each sword combined into one larger blade increasing the penetrating ability of the swords.

The Prophecy is also equipped with a set of wings on its back to improve its mobility and speed when in space or in the atmosphere. It is also equipped with two energy rail guns on its hip that can be used in single shots or scatter shot rounds. It also is equipped with an energy generator shield on its left arm just like the Destiny Factor; and finally it is equipped with the MRJ-476 high output energy rifle that can be attached to the back of the hip when not being used.
This unit along with the ZHFT- R256 Destiny Factor is top secret and should never be captured by the TA or 181st; so like its brother unit it is equipped with a manual self-destruct system as a last resort.

These two units will lead us into a new and better world for the EAP army and will be the new faces of the EAP army for future battles.

After Chris had read over the stats he gave out an impressed whistle. “Damn these units sound amazing; both run by nuclear fission reactors, wow they must really like us to give us these two units”.

Leon let out a chuckle then looked at Chris as he closed his folder. “Yeah but by looking at these specs it looks like you lucked out again and got the better unit”.

“Oh don’t feel to bad Leon, your unit still sounds fearsome”, Chris said as he patted Leon on the back.

Captain Fenrir cleared his throat to get their attention and then placed his arms behind his back. “If you two wouldn’t mind we’d like to take them out on a test run to get them up to combat status”. Just before Captain Fenrir could go on an alarm system went off throughout the facility. He quickly ran over to the nearest vid window and got on the line to the command deck; not too far behind them were Chris and Leon as they hovered over his shoulder wondering what was going on.
“Command deck what going on?”

“Sir we’ve detected a TA warship in the vicinity”, the solider on the other line said to him.

“Have they noticed us yet?”

“No sir I don’t think so”.

“Ok deploy the Radar/radio jammers so they can’t call for reinforcements”. The line then closed and Captain Fenrir slammed his fist on the desk next to him. “Damn none of are new unit are ready to take off”. He then paused and turned to Chris and Leon. “You two get suited up, looks like you’re going to have to do a live test with your units, you understand me?”

“Sir yes sir” both Chris and Leon said as they saluted to him and then ran off to the locker room to change into their jumpsuits.

Captain Fenrir turned to one of the workers and yelled at him and pointed. “You, let the launch deck know that the launch time of the Destiny Factor and Prophecy is being moved forward”. The worker saluted and headed off to the launch deck to inform them while Captain Fenrir headed to command deck.

Chris and Leon quickly got out of their worker uniform and slipped them selves into their jumpsuits; they both wore the same type and color jumpsuit of grey and black as were the colors of the Special Forces but Chris’s had traces of sky blue on his and Leon had traces of yellow on his to tell them apart. Chris zipped up his jumpsuit and fastened his neck brace; he then picked up his helmet and looked over to Leon. “Let’s make new legends of ourselves today”.

Leon picked up his helmet and smiled “Let’s show them the true pilots of space”. And both of them head back to the hanger to get ready to launch.

Out in the debris belt the TA warship inched its way through the rock and MF parts as it bounced off the hull. Escorting it were five Shade MF that slowly moved around trying not to hit any of the debris as well.

“Damn it, what are we doing in this god awful place anyway” one of the Shade pilots said.

“We’ve been getting a lot of strange activity in this area; they want us to check it out”.

“I don’t know what we’re going to find in a dump like this”. One of the Shades then stopped and kicked a charred MF torso out of its way and into more debris.

As the warship and MF inched by, a small transmitter started to flash red until the light became a solid red.

The Shade pilots all looked at their radars to see that they were starting to become fuzzy. “What the hell, Commander someone’s blocking our radar”.

“I just got word from the ship, it looks like their blocking our long range radio waves as well, keep an eye out everyone, looks like there is someone here after all”.

Back at MR3 Chris and Leon hopped into their units and closed the cockpit door behind them. As soon as they strapped themselves in they quickly folded down the keyboards and started to program the Operating Systems of their units.

Soon as they were in their units, large cranes started to move them towards the launch catapult with the Prophecy out first. “All hands the launch time of the R256 Destiny Factor and S258 Prophecy has been moved ahead of schedule due to the circumstances and will begin launch as soon as they are brought to the catapult I repeat”.

As the Prophecy was moved into the launch Catapult both Chris and Leon had finished their configurations of the units and were ready to launch. The cranes dropped Prophecy into two foot clamps and slowly moved him forward into the catapult, the catapult lit up all around the unit as it readied to launch. “S258 Prophecy you’re clear for launch”. An alarm rang through the catapult signaling him to launch.

“Leon Maverick, Prophecy Heading out”. And the Prophecy was launched out of the catapult and out into the Debris field on its way towards the TA warship.

Next was Destiny Factor to be loaded into the catapult and just like for the Prophecy and alarm went off to clear Destiny Factor for launch. “Chris Striker, Destiny Factor launching”. Destiny Factor was launched out of the catapult and out into the debris field; as soon as he was outside Destiny Factor’s wings opened up slowly and then from the wings burst a large amount of Azure and white energy that propelled Destiny Factor towards the TA warship with Prophecy.

The Shade units slowly moved through the debris keeping a close eye around them for any enemy units, and without their radar they were flying blind into the lions den. The unit commander looked down at his radar for a brief minute and thought he saw two blips, just then an alarm went off in his cockpit making him look up quickly to see a single green laser round strike on of the Shade units, the pilots screams echoed through the radio as the unit exploded into a ball of flames. “What the hell, where did that come from?”

They all looked up to see two MF flying right at them. “What the! Open fire!” the commander yelled out. All the Shade units split up and started to fire on the two enemy units.

Both Destiny Factor and Prophecy easily dodged the on coming fire as they quickly fired back. Prophecy then placed its energy rifle behind its back and then grabbed the two anti-ship swords on his back; he quickly boosted down towards the Shade units and then fell down towards one and with one quick slash the sword cut through the unit like a hot knife through butter. Prophecy boosted away just as the unit exploded into a large display of fire and shrapnel that scattered all around the battle field adding to the debris already around them.

Destiny Factor boosted from side to side dodging the laser fire and missile barrage with such skill that the Shade unit couldn’t even keep up with him. “What the hell is it, it’s to fast I can’t get a lock on it” one of the Shade pilots yelled out.

Destiny Factor then placed his right hand rifle at his side and then grabbed the energy saber on his back; he then flew down and before the Shade pilot could do anything he cut it clean in two down the middle.

The Shade commander started to sweat as he grit his teeth in fear, he then turned to the warship. “Launch all the remaining Shade units now!” he yelled out and he tried to shoot the two enemies down.

Chris and Leon made quick work of the other two Shade units; they then looked over to the warship to see it launch twelve more Shade units. Chris then looked at Leon in one of his vid screens above him. “Leon you take care of the Warship I’ll take care of the remaining Shade units”.

“Rodger that” the vid window closed and Prophecy was quickly off towards the TA warship.

Destiny Factor hovered there as the Shade units closed in on him. “So let’s see what this unit can really do”. Chris then readied to engage the ATAWS as he slowly boosted backwards.

The Shade units started to fire on Destiny Factor as it moved away. “Good we’ve got him on the run, keep firing!” the commander yelled out. The Shade units fired waves of missiles at Destiny Factor along with laser fire. The chromed missiles streaked towards Destiny factor and soon connected with him exploding into a cloud of smoke and fire. “YES!” the commander yelled out, but as the smoke cleared he was shocked at what he saw. Destiny Factor was unharmed; it had used the energy shield on its left arm to block the missiles.

Destiny factor lowered its shield and then raised both laser rifles high over its head; the wings on its back also opened up a bit and start to glow. “Now take this you bastards!” Chris yelled out. Just then the wings quickly opened up as Destiny Factor swung its hands out at his side and then six small weapons detached from the wings and the wings shot out the bright Azure and white flames once again as the remote weapons rapidly moved around as they headed towards the Shade units. The remote weapons would stop and fire before moving on again; with each shot fired they destroyed one of the Shade units, and in a matter of seconds all the Shade units were destroyed leaving nothing but a cloud of smoke, fire and limbs of the units. The Remote weapons retuned to Destiny Factor and reattached to its wings. Chris sat in his Cockpit and grinned and chuckled at the sheer power of his unit, he then looked over to the warship to see if Leon needed any help.

Prophecy dodged back and forth and the warship opened fire on him trying to shot him down. Prophecy soon got close to the warship and took a swing at one of its large energy cannons on the hull cutting it apart and after that it took a swing with its other sword on the hull of the ship cutting into it creating a large gash in the hull it then explode and pour out large amounts of smoke. Prophecy then boosted to the front of the ship and then attached its two swords together side by side and quickly boosted at it holding the swords at his side. He then took a large swing and cut through the bridge of the ship. The bridge of the ship exploded and caused a chain reaction throughout the entire ship until the whole ship exploded into a ball of fire.

Prophecy flew over to Destiny Factor’s side as the two of them flouted side by side staring at the carnage and destruction they had created; Chris then got on the radio to MR3. “MR3 this is Chris Striker, enemy units and warship are destroyed mission accomplished”.

“Good work you two, now come back so we can upload the combat data of your units into the system”, Captain Fenrir proudly said to them.

Destiny Factor and Prophecy quickly boosted back to MR3 with victory in hand. Chris looked up at the vid screen with Leon in it and smiled. “Looks like we’re going to become new legends ourselves, to bad we won’t be able to prove our skills in a real fight”.

“Hey, you never know, the Azure Knight is still out there somewhere; we may get lucky and get to test our skills against him”

“Your right, we can only hope, we can only hope”. Chris said in hopes that even if the Azure Knight wasn’t alive that there would be someone out there that could put his skills to the test.
